Friday, March 7th was the 5th annual MATA Awards luncheon and educational meeting. It was the first time the event was not held in Waterville and I was pleased to see a fine turnout. We had students from UMPI, USM, UMO and UNE present. Wayne Lamarre and Ben Towne both gave first rate presentations. If you were not there you missed two very good CEU opportunities. The folks at The Spectacular Event did a great job for us. Great food and just a great meeting space.
Congratulations to Chris Semintelli for receiving the Bill Cox Service Award. Congratulations also to Holly Woodman, the Wes Jordan Scholarship winner and Casey Davis, the Carl Nelson Scholarship winner. Holly is a student at USM, while Casey is a student at UMO.
Ben Towne is this year's winner of the Mike Linkovich grant. Congratulations Ben.
Sherrie Weeks will be presenting a workshop this June to the membership for our scholarship fund. Look for this announcement in your email in box as well as on our website. Remember, this is to raise money for the scholarship fund and we need your support in this project.
As announced at the business portion of the meeting, we will be seeking nominations for the positions of President and Vice President this fall. If you are interested, please put forth your name. Both positions are for two years. It is a chance to test and hone your leadership skills as well as be involved in the association.
The High School Athletic Directors meeting is again at the Samoset Resort. The MATA will have a booth there and we will be sponsoring a speaker. If you can stop by and say hello and help support the Secondary School Committee. The meeting starts April 1 and goes to April 3.
Just a reminder, that March is Certified Athletic Trainers month. The PR Committee will be in Augusta at the Hall of Flags on 3.12.08. All are welcome to attend this event.
Best of luck to all during the spring season and take every opportunity you can to help promote your association and profession.
Thank you,
Tim Adams

Well here we are at the start of another year. The Association is gearing up for the spring Awards Luncheon to be held in Waterville again this March.
If you want to help out with this effort please contact Audrey McKenzie. We are also keeping an eye on a couple of legislative issues. The first regarding our license, which is undergoing Sunset Review. The second issue is one is in regards to making it law for high school coaches and or AD's to be certified in CPR & First Aid. Anyone interested in helping out in either of these two areas, should contact Gina DiCrocco. This is your chance to become involved if Government Affairs is your thing.
We are also looking for someone to volunteer to teach a hands on seminar, this June. This seminar raises money for our scholarship funds. It is a worthwhile event that was well attended last year, the inaugural year of the event. If you have a topic that you would like to share with your fellow ATC's, please contact me, Tim Adams. We can again host the seminar at the Colby Training Room, for free.
I am pleased to report that the MATA is in very good financial order, thanks to our Treasurer, Angie Duplesis.
The fall meeting this past November was well attended and I heard many good remarks about the program, which if you attended was held in the Colby ice arena and involved different scenarios of injured ice hockey players. Thanks to Dennis Russell, Tim Weston, and the various students who helped out as the injured athletes. Anyone who has an idea for the next fall educational event, please let on e of the board members know.
We will be trying something new in the future on our web page. We will be running polls asking for membership input on different issues, please keep an eye out for these polls—we want your input. If you have pictures that would be of interest to the membership, please consider putting them on the web site. You can send your pix to Gina DiCrocco.
Lisa McGowan and the PR committee are working on some different projects and would love your help and input as well. Keep an eye on the web page for some MATA gear that will be offered in the future.
I am looking forward to another good year for the Association. As always if you have any questions or input please, feel free to contact me at tjadams@colby.edu. It is your Association and the Board is here to serve the needs of the membership.

The first annual MATA seminar for Scholarships went off without a hitch on June 21, 2007 at Colby College. Over $700 was raised for the MATA Scholarship fund.
Participants received 6 CEU's , while gaining hands on experience in learning Myofascial Release. The participants also got a taste of a Japanese massage technique, called Shiatsu.
The goal is to make this an annual event that will fund our scholarship efforts.
Thanks to all who participated with a special thanks to Angie Duplesis for taking care of the registrations and of course the money.

Many thanks to Barb Blackstone and Paul Culina for taking the time to bring their students down to Augusta for the Hall of Flags on 3.19.07. It was a great opportunity for the students to interact with lawmakers and promote the profession.
Thanks to Lisa McGowan, Angie Duplesis and Dennis Russell for being there as well.
The Legislature was not in session, but there were committee meetings going on and we did get some people to stop by and chat. The next big event for the Association is the AD’s meeting on April 4-5. If you are a high school ATC, please plan on stopping by.
Thanks again to those who made it to the Hall of Flags.

First of all, thanks to all of the membership who showed up at the Manor on Friday for the 4 th annual Awards Luncheon and Seminar. A special thanks to Barb Blackstone and her students for making the trek from Presque Isle.
Congratulations to all of the award winners, Stan Rintz, the Bill Cox Service Award, Wayne Lamarre, the Mike Linkovich Professional Research Grant, Hall of Fame Inductees, Wes Jordan, Mike Linkovich and Carl Nelson, Wes Jordan Scholarship winner Santana Wilson.
The attendance was very good with 76 attendees. Dr.’s Cain and Corbin provided quality information to the membership regarding the unstable shoulder and leg injuries.
I will again remind that membership, that their association needs their help. The Government Affairs Committee needs membership support with the Sunset Review process. The P.R. Committee as well as the Government Affairs Committee want you to come, even if for just a little while to the Hall of Flags day, March 19 in Augusta. Your presence is needed at this event. Also check out the state website for emailing your state rep regarding the Sunset Review Process. Send those emails!!!!!!
Many thanks to all of the people who made the Awards luncheon the success it was, Audrey McKenzie, Dennis Russell, Ben Towne, Angie Duplesis, the awards committee and the wonderful people at the Manor. A very special thanks to MRI Associates for their sponsorship of the event.
The best of luck to all during the spring sports season, may your injuries be few and not very serious.
Yours truly,
